Consumer Reports November 2013 Issue - Miele Receives High Ratings for Best Upright Vacuum & Best Canister Vacuum
In the lastest copy of the Consumer Reports Magazine, November 2013, Miele received the highest rating for both its upright vacuum and its canister vacuum models.
The Vacuums Were Tested on the Following Categories:
- Performance on carpet
- Performance on bare floors
- Tool airflow
- Noise
- Emissions
- Handling
- Pet hair
Although there are some points in the review that we disagree with, in our estimation this Consumer Reports comparison is mostly on par with what we have experienced with these Miele models.
Here's Our Take on The Recent Consumer Reports Review
Upright Vacuum Category
In the upright vacuum category, Miele had two models. Both came in with a total score of 72 (out of 100).
This was a tie for the top score for all upright vacuums. The Miele Twist S7210 received the No. 1 position with a rating of 72 – getting tops scoring in the following: carpets, emissions, and pet hair. The Miele Cat and Dog S7260 took the No. 3 position on the upright vacuum list with a rating of 72. It received top scoring in the areas of 1.) carpet cleaning, 2.) bare floor cleaning, 3.) percentage of emissions and 4.) pet hair cleaning capabilities.
We're not sure how the Miele Cat and Dog received excellent on bare floors while the Twist only received a very good rating but the point was made. They are both great on all kinds of surfacing. Both of these uprights have the exact same equipment that would have a positive effect on bare flooring, but they have received different ratings. The main differences between the Miele Twist and the Miele Cat and Dog (aside from the exterior color) is that the Miele Cat and Dog comes with more bells and whistles, including a.) an LED headlight, b.) a Charcoal Air Filter and, c.) STB 101 Mini Turbo Tool for helping with pet hair on furniture.
Canister Vacuum Category
In the canister vacuum category of Consumer Reports, the Miele Callisto has taken the No. 1 position with a rating of 71 out of 100. The Miele Callisto got excellent scoring in the area of bare floors, tool airflow, and emissions -- and very good in carpets, noise and pet hair. The bad news about this is that as of 6 months ago the Miele Callisto is no longer being made. The great news is that Miele has come out with an even greater model to take its place!! The new model is the Miele Kona S8390 from the new state-of-the-art Miele S8 line. If you're interested in the Miele Callisto then the Miele Kona is the one to look for.
Conclusion
The official product testers have spoken and they finally pick the worthiest of champions. If you are in the market for a new vacuum cleaner do not over look Miele Vacuums. They are amazing machines with a low cost of ownership, and will probably amaze you by how much better they perform compared to what you are currently using.
