What Does “Air Driven” Mean in Miele Vacuums?
Air Driven models mean that the flooring attachment for your machine is powered by air flow or suction. There are no electrical components inside air driven flooring attachments.
The beauty of air driven attachments is they can work with any Miele model (air driven or electric). But you are limited in the pile / height of carpeting that you are able to clean. Please note all hard flooring attachments are considered air driven attachments.
Before choosing a Miele vacuum, make sure you take into consideration what height or pile carpeting you are able to clean, and what hard flooring abilities you have before purchasing.

Air Driven Attachments with a Spinning Brush Roll (Beater Bar)- For Carpeting
The Miele STB 305-3 TurboTeQ Air Driven carpeting attachment is able to clean low-medium pile carpeting. This head contains a spinning brush roll, and is recommended for users with low-medium pile carpeting. The new design of this head does allow users to clean thicker and denser carpeting, up to a medium length. This head is great for users looking for a lighter weight carpeting attachment. Please note this head does not have height adjustments, so it will only ever clean low-medium pile carpeting
The Miele STB 205-3Air Driven TurboBrush carpeting attachment is able to clean low pile, flat carpeting. This head does contain a spinning brush roll, but is only recommended for users with very flat, low pile carpeting. If you have any pie carpeting that is medium, shaggy, or plush, this head is not recommended. Please note this head does not have height adjustments, so it will only ever clean low pile carpeting.
Air Driven Attachments With No Spinning Brush Roll- For Carpeting and Hard Flooring
The Miele SBD 285-3 Combination Flooring Attachment is Miele’s dual-function attachment. This head has a toggle switch on it, allowing users to transition between low or delicate carpeting, to any hard flooring. You will operate this head by either pushing out bristles (hard floor cleanings) or retracting bristles (carpeting cleanings) to glide over carpeted surfaces. This head does not have height adjustments or a spinning brush roll (beater bard) component. So this head is only recommended for users with ver flat, low pile carpeting OR for any delicate carpeting.
This is Miele’s recommendation for users who have silk, wool, or hand woven rugs that you cannot clean using a spinning brush roll, as it will not damage any carpeting fibers.
The Miele SBB 300-3 Parquet Twister is Miele’s best selling hard flooring attachment. This hard flooring attachment turns and swivels on a dime around furniture, corners, and gets close up to walls and baseboards. This head comes standard on most of Miele’s C3 models. It is 12” in length, and the varied bristle heights allow for deep cleaning into tile grout, hard flooring cracks, and is a master at pet hair. Say goodbye to ever sweeping again, as you dust and clean your hard flooring simultaneously.
The Miele SBB 400-3 XL Parquet Twister is a variation of Miele’s best selling hard flooring attachment- only it’s 16” in length. If you have large areas of hard flooring, this tool grants you a larger surface area for cleaning any hard flooring. Just like the standard size hard 300-3, this attachment turns and swivels on a dime around furniture, corners, and gets close up to walls and baseboards. It is 16” in length, and the varied bristle heights allow for deep cleaning into tile grout, hard flooring cracks, and is a master at pet hair. Say goodbye to ever sweeping again, as you dust and clean your hard flooring simultaneously- now in even less time.
SBB Parquet-3
The Miele SBB Parquet-3 hard flooring attachment is the hard flooring attachment that comes standard on most of Miele’s C1 and C2 models. While this head will clean all hard flooring, it does not have the parquet twisting ability. This tool is 12” in length. To turn the head, you simply turn your wand in the direction you would like this tool to go. The varied heights in the bristles on the bottom of this head clean deep down into the cracks of tile grout and hard flooring cracks. As with any Miele hard flooring attachment, you’ll never have to sweep again, as this attachment dusts and cleans hard flooring simultaneously. **Please Note this head is not sold individually.
